Electroluminescent panels are made of a thin laminated Phosphor panel that has an illuminating glow when an electrical current is applied to it. The Phosphor panel is made up of multiple stacked layers with a full color panel on top.
EL panels are made from semiconductors charged with electricity. A semiconductor is made up of a conductive material combined with an insulator to create a certain amount of electrical resistivity. The semiconductor is purposefully created with holes or other imperfections in a process called doping. Electroluminescent materials are doped so that they excite electrons, causing them to release luminescent photons. The makeup of the semiconductor and the way it is doped causes the electroluminescent panels to emit photons in a variety of brightnesses and colors.
